Outdoor Stonework

Stone Walls & Pillars

Retaining wall/planter box:

This front yard needed to be dug down significantly from the road level, so we put in a stone retaining wall and turned it into a planter box as well. We planted it with salvia and lilies, which will brighten this roadside with a colorful array of purple and yellow blossoms. The top of the wall makes a fine bench to sit on, too.
Note the flat capstones in this and the other stone walls and pillars shown here — an important detail of craftsmanship that protects the underlying stonework, like a roof, from rain and snow seepage that would deteriorate its joints over time.
